Lawn turfing gallery

A great-looking lawn makes a great-looking garden. With some turf and their green fingers, our gardeners have transformed many outside spaces over the years. Take a look at some of them in this gallery.

Double the lawn size

Anita’s team removed 12 meters of brick and cement borders, about two tonnes of pea shingle and almost 8 bags of foliage to double this 12 square-metre lawn in Putney.

On a roll

Another before and after sent in by Anita shows off her turfing skills!

Teamwork makes the dreamwork

Two of our gardeners worked together to restore this garden in South West London. Kevin laid new turf for the customer, while Anita put up a new fence.

Value for money

A client really got their money’s worth with this turfing job! Restoring the garden of this rental ensured the tenant got their deposit back – and all for half a day’s work!

Clive laid £40 worth of turf which, he said, “enabled the Hampton tenant to have the garden reinstated back into better condition than at the start of the tenancy. This secured return of his deposit in full, and the sale of the property on the 1st day of viewing for his landlord.” A great investment!

Ready for summer

Den, who covers the Twickenham area, sent in these photographs of a 40m2 turfing job. Den is going back every other day to water the lawn.

Laying the stripes

This was a satisfying turfing job for Richard Weightman, who lay a brand new lawn for this garden in St Ives.

Replacing gravel with grass

John Marshall from Ed’s Garden Services Guildford transformed several gardens in one month by laying down new turf in preparation for next summer.

John’s most recent project was to clear the site of gravel, level and turf 100 m sq of lawn.

Terrific turfing

Ed’s Garden Services gardener Carl Ward, was pleased with this turfing job he worked on in Eastbourne.

Hedges and horticulture: Gardening gallery

As hypnotising as lawn stripes can be, our gardeners handle more than just grass. From garden clearances to fencing to jet washing, Ed’s gardeners are jacks of all trades. Extending their skills to hedges and horticulture, here are some of the great jobs they’ve done for customers in the past.

Quick improvement

Steve Frise who covers Esher to Weybridge enjoys the immediate improvement to gardens by maintaining or trimming hedges for his customers.

Regular maintenance

Guy cuts this hedge twice a year to maintain it’s classy shape. Guy’s top tip is to always have a sharp blade – and to be careful with it!

Saving a hawthorn

Richard, our Ed’s gardener in St Ives, rejuvenated an old hawthorn hedge, which in parts had become overgrown with ivy. Having recently completed his chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting course, Richard made use of power tools to cut through the ivy, which in some areas had trunks as thick as the original hawthorn.

In other areas, the hedge needed patching with new, four year old hawthorn plants. Once the hedge was cleared and tidy, 50 metres of fencing was erected on the field side, with the base buried below soil level to exclude rabbits from the garden.

Richard said the job was very satisfying, and looks forward to seeing the hedge come back to life in the spring.

Urgent call

Clive had an urgent call from one of his regular customers one evening, asking for help!

Their beautiful 30 year old Acacia Dealbata – otherwise known as a Mimosa – had fallen over in high winds. The tree had been weakened by regular trimming on one side, and had become unstable.

Clive rushed round the next day and the work was completed the same day – the customer was delighted.

Flowers don’t hang around

A wisteria Clive planted for a customer is out in bloom and looking gorgeous. Clive takes regular care of it, pruning it when needed, and sending us photos when the flowers blossom each year!

All shapes and sizes

Andy enjoyed doing some interestingly-shaped hedges for a customer’s front garden.

Ed’s Garden Maintenance Welcomes New Franchisee for Norwich

Ed’s Garden Maintenance welcomes Ian Waters who has taken on a franchise business covering Norwich and Broadland.

Ian, a father of two has spent 25 years working in London. He has a background in IT project management, and for the past three years has worked as an IT contractor.

On joining Ian said, “My five hour daily commute meant that I was hardly getting to see my two children aged six and seven. Whilst intellectually challenging, my work was not personally rewarding, and I wanted a healthier lifestyle.  I’ve always had a love of gardening from being a teenager and explored a number of gardening related franchise opportunities.  Ed’s was the best fit; a good business model with good financials.  I am looking forward to developing a sound business; becoming excellent at what I do then achieving financially what others in Ed’s have achieved.  There are some great role models within Ed’s and I have already spent time with other franchisees including Matthew May in Folkestone, a finalist in this year’s British Franchisee awards.  I’d love to replicate what Matthew has achieved.

Founder Ed Mauleverer added “We’re delighted to welcome Ian as we now start to expand into territories outside of London and the South of England with our first franchisee in Norfolk.”

Lawn repair after squirrel damage

Before
After

Ed’s Garden Maintenance Operators Pierre and Penny sent in these before and after photographs of a lawn they recently repaired.  “The squirrels had been having a field day, digging up the lawn, making holes peeling back the turf searching for sweet chestnuts buried during the autumn.”

Ed’s operators can assist with repairs to lawns with re-seeding, turfing or just putting the jigsaw back together!  Please contact us for a free estimate.

Mowing Pirbright Premier FC

Ed’s Garden Maintenance Operator John was asked to mow his local children’s footie club.  He said “It may not look like the hallowed Wembley Turf but but I think I did a good job and they won 4 – 2 on Saturday!”

Please contact us for a free estimate if we can clear your leaves, mow your lawn or carry out any garden maintenance work.

Allotment Project

Ed’s Garden Maintenance Operator Marcus Richardson from Bracknell recently cleared an allotment ready for nursery children to grow their own!

The Longest Bramble?

Ed’s Garden Maintenance Operator Marcus from Wokingham felt he had defeated the longest bramble on record amongst our operators at 9m and 10cm.  He has not been beaten to date.  Let Ed know if you have tackled longer.

Sarah Whaley bring us up to speed with her business

Sarah has been running her Ed’s Garden Maintenance business since January 2007, taking on one of the early franchises and over the last few years has been successfully growing her business and providing services to both private and commercial clients.

‘Having initially come from an agricultural background in Zimbabwe, moving to the UK was always going to be challenging. I was incredibly blessed during my early years to be exposed to outstanding scenery, flora and fauna. My mother was a gardening guru, and from an early age my brothers and I were planting up hanging baskets for agricultural shows, and getting involved in all sorts of entrepreneurial forays. This inspired a keen interest in gardening, horticulture and the natural world, and I came to the UK to study a BSc (Hons) in Landscape and Garden Design at Writtle College in 2002, achieving a 2.1 degree and an award for the most improved student on my course.

Starting with Ed’s was a wonderful opportunity to break into a competitive industry and take control of my earnings. It also reduced the risk of starting on my own at a rather young and inexperienced 23 years old, whilst still giving me the flexibility to develop my own angle on the business and drive growth in the direction I wanted to go.

One of my initial concerns was about coping physically with what is a very demanding manual job. The job is all about having the right tools however, and we have been encouraged to invest in top of the range equipment which makes almost any job do-able, and gives me complete reliability for my regular maintenance customers. I have also been fortunate in having a great support network within the Ed’s team, and have taken on seasonal labourers during the summer months. Last summer I took on my first full time employee, and we now have two full time employees and a couple of part timers we can call on during the busiest spells. I have concentrated on expanding the business whilst still maintaining a personal relationship with my clients, and trying to provide the same level of service they have come to expect.

We are looking to expand this year and slowly grow a team of passionate and enthusiastic garden maintenance operatives who really care and continue to learn, and slowly we will expand our portfolio of regular customers ensuring that we deliver the best possible service individually tailored to our clients’ needs and budgets. Working with a positive team of people and passionate clients has all the ingredients of a rewarding work experience.

Happy customers make it all worthwhile, and my favourite part of this job is when a customer says to me “You’ve transformed my garden, I love it!” There’s no better incentive to keep on doing what we do.’

Michael Smith, from Petersfield, Hampshire, updates his local community on the gardening services he offers.

My story will probably be no different to many others you will hear given our current economic climate. Since leaving university I have worked in Finance and for the past 3 years in Recruitment. Just after the birth of my second child in March I was made redundant and faced the surprisingly harsh job market like many others at this time.

This has given me a fantastic opportunity to combine my love for the outdoors with the desire to run my own business with an Eds Garden Maintenance Franchise. The franchise has enabled me to get up and running from day one and in my first three months I have been exceeding my business plan targets. I am extremely excited to be able to bring Eds to Hampshire.

Since getting going I have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement from my neighbour’s in Herne Farm, Petersfield – Thank You. My business’s success comes from providing a prompt, reliable and professional service which to date my customers have provided positive feedback.

Given where we live – surrounded by the South Downs, why not grab a small piece of that beauty within your own home environment. This is where Eds comes into its own. All year round there are numerous jobs that we can do for you in order for you to realize this without having to do the hard work yourselves, for example:

  • Spring/Summer – Lawn and hedge cutting, garden clearance and tidy ups, patio and drive cleaning
  • Autumn/Winter – Scarifying and aerating lawns, leaf collection and clearance, gutter and fascia cleaning, mulching, jet washing.

Ed’s Garden Maintenance puts best boot forward raising £225 for GardenOrganic, kicking off National Welly Week

Ed’s Garden Maintenance puts best boot forward raising £225 for GardenOrganic, kicking off National Welly Week

– Ed’s operators take part in 10k fun run to raise funds for an organic future –

Thames Ditton, UK – 21st April 2008. A team from Ed’s Garden Maintenance, a provider of prompt, reliable andefficient services to maintain gardens, has pulled on their wellies and run 10k, raising £225 for the UK’s leading organic growing charity, Garden Organic.

Edward Mauleverer, of Thames Ditton, and four of his colleagues joined hundreds of runners and walkers at Shalford Park, Guildford, to take part in the 10K trek on the morning of Sunday 20 April 2008.

The Ed’S team took part in the fun run to kick-off a week long series of fundraising activities supporting National Welly Week, which begins today. Garden Organic launched Welly Week five years ago aiming to raise funds to help educate and inspire people about organic gardening, farming and food for a sustainable future for ourselves, our children, our environment and our planet.

Garden Organic which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008, is specifically raising funds to help maintain its world class organic demonstration gardens and to support the vital work of its Heritage Seed Library, which preserves over 800 varieties of vegetables under threat of extinction. It is also intending to widen its education programmes to help more children learn about food and organic growing, and enable growers worldwide to adopt organic methods through its international development programmes.

Edward Mauleverer, founder of Ed’S Garden Maintenance says, “Working in wellington boots is one thing, but running in them is certainly another! At Ed’S, we are often required to provide our customers with the work needed to set the foundations for organic growing, whether we’re turning top soil on allotments or advising on compost facilities. So we’re delighted to be supporting the really important contribution Garden Organic makes to encouraging a sustainable future.”

Fund-raiser at Garden Organic, Liz Fredericks, says “We’re delighted that Ed’S were so keen to jump into their wellies outside of their working hours to raise money for Garden Organic. We launched Welly Week to remind people that being outdoors is fun and rewarding and that growing organically is important for the future of our children and the planet. We would like to thank Edward and the team for their support.”
